Weigh-in 18! Meeting topic and more goal talk

Wee warning, there is a lot of math and number talk in this post.

Last night was of course my weigh-in and to be honest, I was quietly confident this week despite my total lack of exercise during the week and the fact on Sunday I went to Gavin's parent's house for an amazing bbq. I was good with my points over the week, and had walked a lot even if I didn't go for a run or in fact any other real type of exercise. But being good with the points paid off! This week I lost 2.5lbs! - though to be fair I wore a summer dress to my weigh in which is a bit lighter than the clothes I normally wear so there is a possibility of a false weigh-in, but sure, all clothes weigh something.

So as always, I re-cap.

Week 1= Initial starting weigh in

Week 2= -9.5lbs!

Week 3= -2lbs

Week 4= -5.5lbs

Week 5= -1.5lbs

Week 6= week off for easter

Week 7= -2.5lbs

Week 8= -3lbs

Week 9= -4.5lbs

Week 10= -2.5

Week 11= -2.5

Week 12= -2.5

Week 13= -1.5

Week 14= -1.5

Week 15= -3

Week 16= -2

Week 17 = -2

Week 18= -2.5

So overall that's a total loss of 48.5lbs!

I don't think I talk about it much here but I'm also a bit fixated on my measurements, my inches, and in particular my waist to hip ratio. Waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) is the ratio of the circumference of the waist to that of the hips. It is calculated by measuring the smaller circumference of the natural waist, usually just above the belly button, and dividing by the hip circumference at its widest part of the buttocks or hip. The ratio is applied both to women and men (Thank you wikipedia). The ideal number for women is in and around the 0.7 mark. I tend to only do my measurements ever two weeks (it takes ages for them to change) and actually last time I decided I wanted to leave it longer, so it's been 3 weeks today since I last measured it. I did the math and after being in and around the 0.81 to 0.83 point for what seems like forever, this morning I'm at 0.79! I am so very chuffed about that!

The meeting topic was activity and exercise, linking it into the Summer and the better weather. As soon as I sat down and seen that my leader had set up her table revolving around exercise I was pleased, some of you who follow me on my @redrunner182 weightwatchers twitter account know that I'm finding it really hard to get my head around the whole activity points concept, so I was hoping it would go into a bit of that. But no. It was about myth busting and promoting cumulative exercise (where any type of exercise is good, it all adds up). I was really, really disappointed with the talk. Some of it I found just silly, like discussing that some people feel hungry after doing exercise, and talking about the mental reasons behind that. Stupid because it just takes the few seconds to say, the reason for that is that you are dehydrated after sweating like that. Drink water, Get on with it. But that wasn't actually said, they seemed to hmm and ha about it and then give the idea up as a lost cause. Frustrating. I get the whole need for addressing such myths, like that muscle can turn into fat (obvious fiction, two different types of tissue, they can't turn into eachother) but they all could have been addressed quickly. There is bound to be other people in my meeting who like me, do a reasonable amount of activity through the week and for the most part get lost with the whole activity points... so frustrating... Next time I see my leader I'm just going to ask her straight out to talk about them.

Anyway, moving on. Next week I will have been on the program 4 full months, and in those four months I think my achievements are absolutely amazing!

I have lost 25% of my overall body weight.

I am half a pound of my 3.5 stone!

I am 1.5lbs from my 50lb overall loss!

I am only 5lbs from my healthy goal.

And 10lbs from my Gold membership.

I'm really liking my numbers at the minute!

My plans for next week are to have hit my 3.5 stone and the 50lb loss. So I'll get that on the Tuesday, which is the day before I graduate! Next weeks post will inevitably have a lot of photographs when I get around to it.

Last night after my meeting, myself and my lovely boyfriend went out for dinner, a kind of date night. Just to a local restaurant. And although I was good with my points yesterday day, having only 3 all day before my dinner, I was bold last night.

4.5 points of wine, 2.5 points of vodka.

Fajitas for dinner and garlic potatoes (easily 20 points)

And then coffee, no dessert, but to be fair, at that point I couldn't eat another bite.

I don't mind, or feel guilty though, I enjoyed it too much. We went home for a cuddle on the sofa watching the most cringe worthy film ever - Leap Year. Oh god the amount of stereotypes in it was ridiculous. And so incredibly cringe worthy. I'll never watch it again, but it was a bit cute. The American actress in it was a load of shite. But anyway, I digress...

This week’s plans are to lose at least the 1.5lbs needed to hit the big 50lb. A bit disappointed that my usual leader Jackie will not be there next week, it’s her daughters graduation, and then the week afterwards, my meeting is closed due to it being the 13th July. And then the week afterwards it’s my birthday and I will be away with Gav so I will miss that meeting too! So the next few weeks will be a bit up in the air, but hopefully that will not affect my losses.

Weigh-In 17! Boldness, Meeting Stuff, Goals.

The last week has been... well mad.

Friday was Gavin's sister's birthday, Now I knew this, and so I prepared for it. Banking my points in the days running up. Being reasonably active and planing to maintain some sort of control over the day. I had only three points all day, and for dinner had a chinese, it was brilliant. The evening was excellent, good food, good company. And I ate a lot, the big chinese, cake, sweeties and chocolate. Points went through the roof a couple of times. Also pretty sure I was drinking sugary diluted juice too.

I don't regret it, because I enjoyed it, the entire evening, it was brilliant. But the next day in work the guilt set in... Not for long though, I went home, felt really shitty and curled up on sofa to be later joined by the lovely boyfriend who came in with another takeaway, this time a garlic chicken pita pocket from the pizzaria. So the boldness continued into the Saturday, then no exercise on the Sunday led to a lot of guilt / punishment on the Monday and Tuesday. But it must have paid of because with this week's meeting I weighed in down another 2lbs!

So as normal, here's my re-cap:

Week 1= Initial starting weigh in

Week 2= -9.5lbs!

Week 3= -2lbs

Week 4= -5.5lbs

Week 5= -1.5lbs

Week 6= week off for easter

Week 7= -2.5lbs

Week 8= -3lbs

Week 9= -4.5lbs

Week 10= -2.5

Week 11= -2.5

Week 12= -2.5

Week 13= -1.5

Week 14= -1.5

Week 15= -3

Week 16= -2

Week 17 = -2

So overall I'm down 46lbs!

And I'm going to be hitting a lot of goals soon too (hopefully).

I'm 3lbs of my 3.5 stone loss.

I'm 4lbs of my 50lb loss.

And I'm pretty sure my 25% mark will be hit in the next week or so... I need to double check on that one.

I'm 7.5 lbs of my own personal goal, the one I was hoping to have hit by January 2011 initially. (Go me)

and 12.5lbs of my gold membership. So very pleased at my progress.

Hoping to have reached the 50lbs by the 6th July. Mostly because it's my graduation on the 7th of July (speaking of which I got my results today! Got my 2:1! And very pleased with myself, really looking forward to graduation now), and that's a nice round number to have hit by then. I joined weightwatchers back in March to get myself to have lost one and a half stone by graduation. Can't believe I'm nearing 3 and a half!

Tuesday's meeting was also brilliant in that I found it very educational. I like 'foody' talks, this one was based on sandwiches, which to be fair, I think I knew everything, but revision is always good. Bread, filling foods and portion size were all addressed. Although once I got out of the meeting I had a craving for bread, in particular veda, which at 1.5 points a slice is a lot more than my .5 slice nimble. And I bought it.

Anyway, as we all know I take a lot of pictures throughout the week, my favourite place being of course my local park, the waterworks, so here's some more pictures, before I wind up avoiding it due to all the scumbags that will inevitably take residence once the kids are out of school.

Last night, after the meeting I had half a bottle of wine, I loved it so much. :)

Tonight? I watch Buffy, celebrate my grades with a wee vodka with fanta... and possibly chocolate.

Good times.

(also in case you're expecting an email from me, i promise i'll send you it in the next few days, things have been mad in my wee world. xx )

Weigh-in 16 and a wee bit of shopping

Really late this week but another weigh-in post! haven't much to blither about this week so this will be short! (many of ye go yay)

It's been a really mixed wee week, I was good point wise, but hardly any exercise done.Mostly just walks around one of my favourite wee places, the waterworks :)

It's so pretty at this time of year, when the kids are still in school so it isn't ruined by kids fighting, throwing eachother and rubbish into the pond. Part of me is dreading July coming in because I know I'll stop going through it once the wee scum bags are finished for the year. anyway, moving on...

Yet I still managed to get down another 2lbs! Woo! So as always my wee re-cap:

Week 1= Initial starting weigh in

Week 2= -9.5lbs!

Week 3= -2lbs

Week 4= -5.5lbs

Week 5= -1.5lbs

Week 6= week off for easter

Week 7= -2.5lbs

Week 8= -3lbs

Week 9= -4.5lbs

Week 10= -2.5

Week 11= -2.5

Week 12= -2.5

Week 13= -1.5

Week 14= -1.5

Week 15= -3

Week 16= -2

Only 6lbs to 50lb loss!

The other thing that happened is that I've been shopping, and bought new jeans, new size ten jeans! (and a size 12) I hate how shops have such inconsistant sizes.

Wound up spending over £50 I don't have. That's the one bad thing so far. I'm skint. I need a new job. I actually need new clothes.

That's about it, very short entry. I've a few things being drafted though. Loads to do over the next few days!

Croke Park, Weigh-In, 3 Stone and TV

So I'm finally getting around to this weeks weigh in post!

Last week was a bit of a mess. The arches of my feet have been aching, but towards the end of the week I bought the Scholl inserts for them which do seem to have helped, always good when the fecking things are £23. Bad craic, but the pain is subsiding, for the arches anyway. Unfortunately the inserts have pushed my feet up, exposing my heels to parts of the shoe it's not used to, and now I have agonising blisters, so no running has been done, and minimal walking, I have got those compeed plasters, but it's still quite sore to walk, I tryed getting on my bike, but that's sore too, so figured it would probably be smartest to avoid things that hurt my ankles, I wasn't expecting to have gotten the 3lbs I need for 3 stone anyway until next week, so wasn't fussed how things went.

Last Friday me and Gav had an awesome chicken salad in the garden:

Saturday was Westlife at Croke Park! I was heading down to Dublin, her lovely mammy and daddy were legendary enough to drive us down and then back up too!

I was worried about how I'd deal food wise throughout the day... but it turns out I needent have worried! I ate next to nothing the entire day! The only things available were burgers and chips, and most of you know I'm not keen on burger van crap, so I went without and munched on the small oranges and weightwatchers cookies I brought down, plus water. I think I only managed ten points that entire day which wasn't good. But anyway, lets see some pictures yes?

Posey picture of me and Gav before I left in the morning:

Meet my pretty red armband, golden circle baby!

My beloved backpack was ruined by a bastard of a security guy, ripped the zip  despite me saying it was delicate and left me to pin it together for the rest of the day (Anna if you read this can you still remember his number? I still need to report that) Not even an apology! And all to take the lid of my bottle of water. Tool.

This was the wee american boy band wow, quite like Otown, remember them? Not my cup of tea, but quite good.

I didn't take any pictures of wonderland, because, frankly, I wouln't waste the memory on my card, or my battery power. They suck, enough for me to stick my earphones in my ears and listen to my ipod to get weird looks from the people surrounding me, Mark from westlife's boyfriend being one of those people (yup, he was behind me and totally aware of the picture I took of him - so much for me being discreet). Wonderland are like a budget Saturdays, who are a budget Girls Allowed. They're not my cup of tea, like Wow, but at least wow were good at what they did. It's obvious wonderland are only getting the money and chances they are because one of them is married to a westlife fella. That sounded harsh... I could have been worse though. Anyway, moving on.

I got a lot of video of Jedward. They were awesome, and they did blink182's all the small things! I could have died of happiness there and then!!! This is the only picture I got of John or Edward. They wouldn't keep still! I can't understand where their energy came from. total entertainers, and better singers and dancers than some other support... ehm.

And then some JLS pictures, also total entertainers. Seen them the day before I started all this weightwatcher stuff in the waterfront in belfast and they were just as good on Satyurday as they were back then.

A crowd picture, look how many thousands of people there are?!?! Madness.

And one of Croke looking pretty later at night with no flash

And a handful of my pictures, to be honest, I didn't take too many, too caught up in the atmosphere and great gig, and to be fair have loads from the two odyssey gigs last month (woo second row!)

Anyway, moving on to weigh-in chat!!!

Tuesday night was of course my weigh in, and I hit my 3 stone!

Doing my usual re-cap

Week 1= Initial starting weigh in

Week 2= -9.5lbs!

Week 3= -2lbs

Week 4= -5.5lbs

Week 5= -1.5lbs

Week 6= week off for easter

Week 7= -2.5lbs

Week 8= -3lbs

Week 9= -4.5lbs

Week 10= -2.5

Week 11= -2.5

Week 12= -2.5

Week 13= -1.5

Week 14= -1.5

Week 15= -3

So that's, shockingly, my three stone! In 14 weeks really. Only 11lbs until I get back to the weight I want to be at, my own personal goal. And I think about 5lbs more until i get the gold member status. Very pleased with myself! Only 8lbs to go until I reach the 50lb mark. Madness!

I of course got my lovely new sticker!

And my second (though it should be third 'cus my leader never actually gave me my first stone) Don't my stickers look pretty?

I'm very, very, very pleased with myself. And it's weird because a lot of people are really noticing it now and telling me I look different, which is odd, cus I don't. But what's also great is a lot of people are telling me I look more like myself again, which is exactly how I feel these days.

My new tv obsession, seeing as SuperSize vs SuperSkinny is over for the season, is Cook Yourself Thin! Only discovered this week I completely love Gizzi the wee retro looking chef in it. Channel four is currently airing the third season weekdays at 2:55, but they have the first season, which has a different kind of structure, but is still great, on 4od.

Yesterday's episode had a great looking aubergine garlic dip, I plan on making that soon. So very excited for trying that, I'll blog about that when I finally get round to it.

What does annoy me is the sponcer is Alli, that slimming pill company. Hate those things being advertised on TV, some people are impressionable and after quick fixes and those things won't last, you need to get yourself into a healthier mentality, another reason I love weightwatchers, this isn't a diet, it's me learning better choices, and I'm still allowed my treats. Anyway, I digress...

I wanted to recommend this, I threw out the box before I had a chance to take a picture, but it's a weight watcher own brand chocolate brownie dessert, at 3 points per pot, two in the pack and currently on offer in tesco for only £1. It's awesome, incredibly rich, but incredibly good.

And if you have managed to read all of this... well done you!

That's me for now. Should really go ready myself for work.

Spinning Class Review and Weigh-in!

I'll start off with a quick re-cap on what the last week has been like and to be fair, it's been grand enough.

I think I've been starting to slip with my tracking. I still write everything down, but sometimes I can wait until right and late in the evening before I write it all down. My points still haven't been going over 18 and if they do they don't pass my ceiling of 20.

Another thing I've got lazy with is the exercise. Although I am making up a slight excuse with it because last Friday, after work I met Anna and we went for our first spinning class together in the local leisure center. Now I have been to a spinning class before, years ago, when I was actually fit. And I liked it. I liked it because it's a simple sport, get on the bike and pedal to the (usually bad) music picked by the instructor, changing the resistance of the pedals and you can push yourself at your own rate, you're not forced to keep up with the others.

Me and Anna were early. The first person we came across was some girl who thinks herself some kind of professional, who took it apon herself to show us the bikes, and how to change them so they suit you before pottering to the front at the bike closest to the instructors bike. Not too long later the class started to fill up. All women, many weirdly dolled up - that was strange, why no fellas? then the instructor came in and it made sense. They were dolled for him. Anna and myself got a very, very basic chat from him. Basically saying that at points we had to stand up, which I already knew, not sure about Anna. What I found absolutely hilarious was that he didn't explain what way the bike is to be positioned, how high should the seat be? What about the handlebars? At that point I was glad that the girl gave a rough chat on it. I think the only useful thing he said was that the brakes can stick. So be careful, and that was it. I wasn't expecting an in depth chat about the ins and outs of the spinning bikes (which are different from your basic excercise bike) but I was expecting some guidance. Instuctor guy swaggered to the front of the class, mounted his bike, plugged his ipod into the stereo, and my ears began to be violated by the exceptionally poor taste in music he had on that playlist.

Now I am no fitness genius, but I do run, and I do understand the basics about getting songs that have suitable bpm. This did not have it, it was just generic dance music, all different tempos, and none suited the routine he had worked out.  It was very, very odd.

Once the routine started I did try to keep up, but he seemed to be shouting in some code, I gathered ther counting bit was about how long we had left doing each thing. Though again, a bit of direction at the beginning that he shouts random numbers out to let us know would have been great. He also kept shouting out something to do with bodyweight(?) I think. I'm not quite sure. I've tried googling that since to work out what on earth he meant, but to no avail. I sort of gave up listening to what he was doing about 30 minutes in. and I decided to give myself my own wee routine, tried to suit the music to the wee hills I decided to make up on my own, the only thing I paid attention to the instructor was to work out whether we were standing or sitting, so I didn't look too much of a tool.

It was infuriating and did feel like a total waste of money. Anna left early, and at the end a very, very, very basic cool down and stretch occurred, oh - that's another thing! I'm glad I did a few stretches in the changing rooms before I went out, because there was none of that and I dread to think how I would have felt afterwards without my stretches before and after. I did a couple more stretches back in the changing rooms before my shower. I cleaned down the two bikes at the end of the class and giggled to myself at the flirting that happened afterwards, considering the sweat was leaping off him, he managed to attract three of the girls, one being the first girl I seen in the room and the flirting was... well cringeworthy, and not all that professional looking either.

-oh, huge edit - at one point the handlebars on the bike I was using and that was apparently tightened by the instructor gave out on me. not amused.

So before I move on, Spinning is great, just, if you're in Belfast, do not go to the Ballysillan Leisure Center on a Friday evening for it. It's a waste of your time and your money. Find somewhere else, and if you do, tell me, I'd like to get back into it.

In the mean time, come next week I'm trying out something else. I plan on doing it for a week before I review it here, and I don't think I can start it properly until next week, but so far? I love it.

So, moving on a little, Tuesday night was, as always, weigh-in night! And I'm down another 1.5lbs!

So doing my wee usual re-cap:

Week 1= Initial starting weigh in

Week 2= -9.5lbs!

Week 3= -2lbs

Week 4= -5.5lbs

Week 5= -1.5lbs

Week 6= week off for easter

Week 7= -2.5lbs

Week 8= -3lbs

Week 9= -4.5lbs

Week 10= -2.5

Week 11= -2.5

Week 12= -2.5

Week 13= -1.5

Week 14= -1.5

That's 39lbs over all! and I'm 3lbs off my 3stone mark. Very pleased, if a little disappointed that I seem to be slowing down. Again I'm blaming that on my tracking, I want to readdress everything I track, make sure I'm putting the right point value down for everything. And I do really need to regain a focus with my exercise, my problem is, since the spinning class, I've been getting some pain in my left arch. But I'm still hoping that for next weeks weigh-in, I can manage 2lbs, and then the next week expect my next silver seven sticker.

Oh, incidently, I've also made it to the 20% mark. In 14 weeks I've lost 20% of my over all body weigh, so very pleased with that.

Not far to go now.

Champions League Final 2010 weekend

I can not believe it has taken me so long to get round to this post.

Not that weekend past, but the one before, I was off work. I always take the Champions League Final day off.

This time last year we (me and Gav obviously) went to Rome for the Champions League final between Man U and Barcelona. Even though neither of us actually support either team.

Anyway I was just flicking through some of the 1100+ pictures I took over those 5 days (yes I took that many, plus video) to see if there's any I'd put here, like actual body shots, and there's not. I can't believe I actualy let myself get to that weight. It's angering looking at it. The same with my Barcelona pictures from January of this year (those ppictures will one day get an entire post just for them).

No body shots will be included but here's one of me and Gav at the Colliseum.

I can see a huge difference in my face now. Not to mention everywhere else and I can't help but think back now, how the hell did I manage to go around in that heat for five days with that weight on me? Anyway, what I'm left thinking is how glad I've lost so much since then. There's no way I'm going back to that ever.

I've had two fantastic holidays in the last two years, Rome and Barcelona, and I love taking photographs, I think that's evident enough in this wee blog. But there's no way I feel comfortable with what I look like in them and it's annoying. 'Cus some of the pictures are pretty neat and I'd like to shopw them off. Meh, maybe one day?

Anyway, this post is about my weekend off, which was a simple wee few days. but an excellent few days.

I woke up on the Saturday morning feeling brilliant (considering the drunken mess of the night before - I drank shit loads of water though in the pub and then before bed) ands while Gav went off to play football I decided to tackle the front garden, which was starting to make the house look abandoned. This is what it was like in the morning.

Though I only got half way through when Gav came home and said seeing as it was my day off, how about a picnic up cavehill? So we went to the shop, got some stuff for lunch and pottered up the road. As always some pictures:

Gav being daft

I chose more sensible footwear this time.

Lunch was a wee belfast bap with half a pack of tayto cheese and onion. So so sooooooooooooooooooooooooo good.

The tayto go out of date on my birthday incidently.

Playing games

more posing.

The castle

By the time we got home Gav's dad had called around and finished the front garden. Legend. So we moved onto the back and decided to both repot and plant stuff to cheer up the block of concrete that is our back.

belfast city council need to have a special bin for glass bottles...

In case you haven't noticed. I love Garden gnomes, I have upwards of twenty, both out the back and in my front porch. It's my aim to also have some garden flamingos, but am yet to come across some in my price range.

My garlic!

And the Sunday was spent lying about the back in the heat, on the trampoline doing some readings for my final essay (which is in almost a week now).

It was a brilliant weekend off. Just lazing about and having a good wee time. Saying that, most of my days have been as good since, I think it's just the stress of university having left me that's just made everything great.

I should head now, need to finish getting ready for work. I'll hopefully post an entry tonight, tomorrow at the latest talking about last week, me and Anna's Spinning class last Friday. And last night's weigh-in!
